DMK distances itself from MP's prayer for Kanimozhi's release

The DMK today distanced itself from special prayers reportedly conducted by its Rajya Sabha member for release of jailed MP Kanimozhi.

CHENNAI: The DMK today distanced itself from special prayers reportedly conducted by its Rajya Sabha member for release of jailed MP Kanimozhi, terming it as an "unilateral act" which lacked the party's consent.

"This unilateral act by Vasanthy Stanley did not have the party headquarters' consent. We like to clarify that the party is not connected to it in any way," DMK's Organising Secretary TKS Elangovan said here in a statement, referring to reports in a section of media.

Stanley had reportedly conducted special 'pooja' at a temple in Kancheepuram yesterday, seeking the early release of Kanimozhi even as the trial in the 2G spectrum allocation scam started today in a Delhi special court.

Kanimozhi, DMK chief M Karunanidhi's daughter, is lodged in Tihar Jail in Delhi since her arrest in connection with the 2G scam on May 20.
