NEW DELHI: After writing to the Centre, DMK, a key constituent of the ruling coalition, on Wednesday approached UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to demand scrapping of the 60 per cent marks criteria for SC and ST students to avail post-matric scholarships.

Kanimozhi, DMK MP and daughter of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, called on Gandhi to plead for the withdrawal of the controversial decision.

She said the issue would be taken up by the Chief Minister with the Central leadership when he visits here next week.

Karunanidhi told the Tamil Nadu assembly last week that his government would continue to give scholarships even if the Centre insisted on the condition citing some reasons.

She replied in the negative when asked whether there was any difference of opinion between the Centre and the state government over the LTTE issue.
