DMK demands rollback of petrol price hike

DMK demanded rollback of the steepest ever petrol price hike with M Karunanidhi saying his party MPs will take up the matter with the govt.

CHENNAI: Key UPA partner DMK today demanded rollback of the steepest ever petrol price hike with Chief M Karunanidhi saying his party MPs will take up the matter with the government.

"I will ask for it," was his terse reply when reporters sought to know if he would demand a rollback of the Rs 7.5 hike per litre of petrol.

"Through the DMK MPs, we will convey our views about the hike," he said.

Asked if the DMK was consulted on the hike being a UPA ally, he said when the government takes certain decisions not all of them could be discussed with alliance party leaders.

"For example, did Chief Minister Jayalalithaa consult friendly parties before hiking electricity tariff, milk price and bus fares," he asked.
