DMK-Congress split triggers four-cornered fight in Tamil Nadu
Congress is preparing itself for life after DMK by aligining with Captain Vijayakant’s DMDK. Apart from the respective alliances being worked out by Jayalalithaa’s AIADMK, DMK and Congress, BJP too is set rope in erstwhile NDA ally, Vaiko-led MDMK, which has fallen out with the two main Dravidian parties.

Congress, which has around 8 per cent votes is exploring a pact with DMDK (10 per cent votes) and IUML (3-4 per cent). DMK (22 per cent vote share) is working on an alliances with Dalit outfits, Puthiya Tamilagam of K Krishnaswamy and Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi of Thol Thirumavalavan which together is estimated to have over 3 per cent votes. Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam with around 1 per cent vote share is supposed to join the front.

BJP leader L Ganeshan said his party with around 3 per cent vote share is confident of stitching an alliance with Vaiko’s party which has 2 per cent votes. All this simply means Jayalaithaa’s AIADMK front (around 28 per cent votes) in alliance with CPI and CPM, with over 3 per cent votes, has an electoral edge in TN.
