DMK boycotting bypoll to protest misuse of government machinery: Kanimozhi
CHENNAI: DMK Chief M Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi today said her party's decision to boycott June 27 bypoll to R K Nagar Assembly constituency here was to register its opposition to alleged misuse of government machinery by the ruling dispensation.

"You have been witnessing how the bypolls are being held. Everyone knows how the government machinery is misused. We are boycotting the bypoll to show our opposition to this," she told reporters here.

Not only DMK, but several other 'important' political parties, including PMK, MDMK and VCK, were also boycotting it, the DMK MP said.

R K Nagar seat fell vacant on May 17 after AIADMK's sitting MLA P Vetrivel resigned following the acquittal of Jayalalithaa on May 11 by the Karnataka High Court in the disproportionate assets case.

Jayalalithaa is contesting from the seat for her return to the state Assembly as an MLA.
