DK Shivakumar terms change of Karnataka Health Minister as proof of failure in COVID-19 control

Bengaluru: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president DK Shivakumar on Monday termed chief minister BS Yediyurappa changing the health minister in a minor Cabinet reshuffle as a "proof of the government's miserable failure in handling the Covid pandemic."

"The fact that the Health Minister has been changed adds credence to our charge that this Govt's incompetency has led to massive loss of life and livelihood," the Congress leader tweeted.

The chief minister assigned the health portfolio to Medical Education minister K Sudhakar, and moved B Sriramulu to the Social Welfare department, a heavy portfolio, to placate him as the BJP leader from Ballari district was miffed that he was not made a deputy chief minister. While doing so, the chief minister also took away the backward classes department from Sriramulu, and retained it with him.


Deputy chief minister Govind Karjol will keep only public works with him. Karjol may also get Kannada & Culture as CT Ravi has resigned from it after his elevation as BJP national general secretary.

As both health and medical education officials shared Covid control efforts, both Sriramulu and Sudhakar reviewed their work, which sometimes led to disappointment and a feeling of interference by the other.
