District administration issues safety advisory after Siang rises

The District Magistrate has also prohibited the lifting of driftwood brought by the river from upstream and park long both the banks of the Siang river

Guwahati: Following continuous monsoon rains and rising trends of River Siang and its tributaries, the East Siang District administration in Arunachal Pradesh Singh has issued a Safety Advisory, cautioning General Public, particularly living along low lying areas to refrain from venturing into Siang River and Tributaries for Fishing, swimming and other activities, to avoid any untoward eventualities.

District Magistrate Dr. Kinny Singh stated people living in the low lying right bank and left bank which include Jarku, Paglek, SS Mission, Jarkong, Banskota, Berung, Sigar, Borguli, Seram, Kongkul, Namsing and Mer nearby river Siang are advised to remain alert and not to panic as till date River Siang is flowing below danger level.

The District Magistrate has also prohibited the lifting of driftwood such as logs,trees, bamboo clamps,and any uprooted vegetative materials brought by the river from upstream and park long both the banks of the Siang river, as these serve as natural flood control mechanisms, adding that violation of the same will attract necessary action under section 188 IPC and under other relevant provision of law, against the violators.
