Mumbai: Congress and NCP have asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to dismiss civil supplies minister Raosaheb Danve for alleging that the farmers’ agitation was at the behest of China and Pakistan.

Maharashtra minorities welfare minister Nawab Malik of NCP said Modi should ask Danve to resign. “Farmers who are fighting for their legitimate demands are being branded as Khalistani and stooges of China and Pakistan. Danve is a minister of the Union.

The Centre should clarify whether it is his personal view or that of the government,” he said. If the government believed in Danve’s allegation why is the Centre talking with the farmers, he asked. “Why did home minister Amit Shah and others hold a meeting with the farmers, if they believed that China and Pakistan were behind the protests?”

Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant also demanded that Modi drop Danve. “If farmers are indeed a front for China and Pakistan, why are you holding talks with them?” Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut sarcastically said: “If this is true, then the Union government should carry out a surgical strike on China and Pakistan.”
