Disappointed Deccan Chargers planning for future

The Deccan Chargers would leave their disappointments behind and plan ahead for the future in the Indian Premier League Twenty20 tournament, said Captain Adam Gilchrist on Friday.

HYDERABAD: The Deccan Chargers would leave their disappointments behind and plan ahead for the future in the Indian Premier League Twenty20 tournament, said Captain Adam Gilchrist on Friday.

Though the team is disappointed over its rough patch, it is determined to do well in future, he said in an interaction, along with VVS Laxman, with the listeners of a private FM network here.

Echoing Gilchrist's words, Laxman said it is most unfortunate that the team is not qualifying for the semi-finals of the inaugural IPL tournament.

The team will be around for the next year and it can plan for the future, he said.

The stylish Hyderabad batsman wanted the fans to keep supporting the team and have faith in it.

To a query, Gilchrist said IPL is an exciting concept and that he thoroughly enjoyed playing in the competition. The Australian had a word of praise for young players like Rohit Sharma and Andhra's Venugopal Rao and P Vijay Kumar.

Sharma, who is only 21, played consistently well in the series, a quality which the team lacked, he said.

With 331 runs, Sharma is the highest run-getter for the Deccan Chargers in the contest. The Mumbai batsman has already made an impact with his remarkable peformance, Laxman said, describing him as an excellent prospect for the country.

With only two wins from 10 matches, Deccan Chargers are virtually out of the semi-final race in the IPL series. The team faces Mumbai Indians on Sunday.
