Expressing hope that the Mumbai attacks will not cast a shadow on the polls in the capital tomorrow, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday said parties should not engage in politics over the issue.

NEW DELHI: Expressing hope that the Mumbai attacks will not cast a shadow on the polls in the capital tomorrow, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday said parties should not engage in politics over the issue.

"It is an attack on India. It is a very serious issue confronting the country. Nobody should indulge in politics on it," Dikshit told reporters.

She also hailed the sacrifice of the security personnel who laid down their lives fighting against terrorists in Mumbai.

Asked whether the attacks will have any impact on polling tomorrow, she hoped that it will not affect voter turn out. "It will not affect the polling."

On Congress' chance in the polls, Dikshit said she was confident of a good result as the response from the citizens during the campaigning was "very encouraging".

"If I go by the response we got during the campaigning, it seems very very promising," she said.

Asked specifically what is her feeling about the polls, Dikshit said she was "humbly confident" of a good show by her party.

"I am feeling confident. I cannot be arrogantly confident. I am humbly confident," Dikshit said.

Delhiites will decide tomorrow whether Congress will have a historic hat-rick to rule the national capital or BJP will win power.

Elections will be held in 69 out of a total of 70 constituencies tomorrow while polling for Rajendra Nagar seat, whose BJP candidate Puran Chand Yogi allegedly committed suicide during campaigning, will take place on December 13.
