Digvijaya Singh divested of Karnataka & Goa charges, Madhusudan Mistry dropped as AICC General Secretary

NEW DELHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday divested Digvijaya Singh his charges of Karnataka and Goa even while he continuing as an AICC General Secretary with charges of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. In another move, she dropped Madhusudan Mistry as AICC General Secretary.

Significantly, Gandhi also appointed the relatively youger leader from Kerala K C Venugopal as a new AICC General Secretary and has been assigned charges of Karnataka and Goa. Venugopal, known to be part of Team Rahul, will be assisting by a set of three younger AICC Secretaries.

Digvijaya Singh getting shifted out of charge of Goa and Karnataka comes in the wake of the recent criticism of his handling of Goa Congress's ill-fated attempt to form a Government after elections produced a hung Assembly. It remains to be seen whether Singh will be assigned charges of a fresh set of States

The dropping of Mistry, who is known to be close to Rahul Gandhi, was announced when he was made a member of Congress central election authority, a post that bars him from holding any other party posts.

The day's big gainer is Venugopal, making his debut in the big league of AICC General Secretaries with charge of poll-bound Karnataka in addition to Goa.
