Digvijay stands by what he wrote in ET
Digvijay Singh reiterated that anti-naxal policy can be counter-productive .

NEW DELHI: The governments in Red terror affected states may be backing the Centre’s plans to combat Naxalites, but a section of the Congress does not appear equally enthusiastic about supporting the home minister.
Mr Digvijay Singh, whose views on the issue are more in sync with the civil society activists, reiterated that the Congress shared his stand that the Centre’s anti-naxal policy can be counter-productive .
In a signed article in the ET barely days after the Dantewada massacre, Mr Singh had called Mr Chidambaram “rigid” and ridden with “intellectual arrogance” as he argued against what he called the “narrow sectarian” approach of the home minister to Maoist insurgency. “He (Chidambaram) is treating it purely as a law and order problem without taking into consideration the issues that affect the tribals,” Mr Singh had said.
In an interview to a TV channel on Saturday, Mr Singh said that he stood by what has written in the ET and that it was in keeping with the Congress policy. Mr Singh also said he did the “right thing” by airing his views publicly.
It be recalled that the Congress had warned party leaders against washing dirty policy linen in public. “The Congress is a democratic party and leaders of the party are entitled to hold personal views. But they should express them only in party fora,” Congress general secretary Janardhan Dwivedi had said when the ET article stoked a fresh controversy about the party stand on countering Naxalism.
