Dignified life should be criterion for BPL families: Nitish Kumar

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said that the dignified life should be made the yardstick to identity BPL families and not the calorie in-take or daily income.

PATNA: Castigating the Centre's criterion to accord BPL category, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said that the dignified life should be made the yardstick to identity BPL families and not the calory in-take or daily income.

"It should be considered whether a family has means to lead a dignified life before including in the BPL category," Kumar told reporters.

The criterion like daily income or calorie in-take by a family was not a fair qualification to accord BPL category, Kumar said.

The chief minister said that a declaration paper was released in Patna on the criteria for BPL families and a report was submitted to the Centre earlier.

About a land scam in Araria district where the land of farmers was purchased by some people and sold to the state government at steep price, he said that a high-level probe was going in the case.
