In Kerala, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), a key ally in ruling UDF government, has expressed strong reservations over the state's decision to implement the PM SHRI school scheme in the state.

Earlier, the party had demanded that chief minister VD Satheesan address its concerns before taking a final decision. Kerala education minister N Samsudheen is from IUML. The differences have given the Opposition LDF an opportunity to target the government. On Wednesday, LDF staged a walkout from the assembly, accusing the government of pursuing BJP's agenda . The PM SHRI scheme was not implemented in Kerala during the LDF government. The government appeared to be on the back foot, with Samsudheen telling the House that no final decision had been taken on implementing the scheme. This is not the first issue over which IUML has expressed reservations. Differences have also surfaced within the ruling alliance over reducing taxes on low-alcohol beverages.
