Did Deepender Singh Hooda cry after Congress's defeat in Haryana? Here's the truth

A video showing Congress leader Deepender Singh Hooda in tears has been circulating widely on social media. Users claim the video was taken after his party lost in the recent Haryana Assembly elections. However, an investigation by the PTI Fact Check Desk found this claim to be false.

The 18-second clip is from June 2024, when Hooda became emotional after winning the Rohtak Lok Sabha seat by over 3 lakh votes. At that time, a large group of supporters had gathered at his residence, which led to his emotional reaction.

On October 8, a user on the social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter) shared the video with the caption, "Deepender Hooda got emotional. He worked very hard for the party. His efforts will remain unforgettable. My leader Deepender Hooda ji fought a great fight. Whatever the circumstances, I will always be with you, always and always."


To verify the video, the PTI Fact Check Desk reverse-searched keyframes using Google Lens. This led them to an extended version of the video on the YouTube channel 'Karnal Breaking News.' The video, uploaded on June 4, was titled, "Hooda got emotional while meeting the workers after winning the Rohtak Lok Sabha seat by lakhs of votes."

Further investigation revealed a June 5 report by DNA Hindi on the incident. The report stated that Hooda had lost the Rohtak seat by 7,000 votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections but won it by more than 3 lakh votes in 2024. Post this victory, a huge crowd of supporters gathered at his house, making him emotional.

The PTI Fact Check Desk concluded that the viral video is unrelated to the Haryana Assembly election results. Instead, it captures Hooda's emotional response to winning the Rohtak Lok Sabha seat in June 2024.
