GUWAHATI: Union minister for Rural Development, Jairam Ramesh on Saturday said that his ministry has proposed to planning commission to include two Maoist infested districts of Dibrugarh and Tinsukia among the 82 Naxal infested districts of country.

This will mean that these districts will get special funding for Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY). These districts have become safe sanctuaries for Maoist and anti talk ULFA militants.

Ramesh added around 13,000 km of roads are build in Assam with maximum unacceptable quality of 5 percent in last 11 years. State government has proposed setting up on construction an academy. "It is good proposal," he said.

Ramesh further said presently only IIT Guwahati is reviewing the DPRs. "We decided to increase the number of technical agencies and include Assam Engineering College, Jorhat Engineering College, and NIT-Sichar for reviewing the DPRs."

The minister added the level of inequality is decreasing fast." Assam has the lowest inequality rate of distribution. In the country however poverty is decreasing however inequality is increasing."
