CHANDIGARH: All government offices, boards, corporations and educational institutions located in Sangrur district will remain closed on April 11 in view of Dhuri bypoll, an official said today.

The holiday will facilitate employees to exercise their right of franchise in by- elections for Dhuri assembly seat. This holiday has been declared under Negotiable Instrument Act 1881, a state government spokesperson said.

Other employees, who are voters of the assembly constituency but were posted in other areas, could also avail the facility of this public holiday by showing their voter identity cards to the competent authority and this holiday would not be deducted from their sanctioned holidays account, he said.

The bypoll was necessitated after Congress MLA Arvind Khanna resigned from the Assembly in January.
