Dhumal gets environment leadership award

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal was today given an award for environment leadership.

SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal was today given an award for environment leadership.

Ola Ullsten, former prime minister of Sweden and chairman World Conference for Corporate Governance, gave the 'Golden Peacock' award to Dhumal at a function at Palampur in Kangra district.

Inaugurating the 'Global convention on climate change', organised by World Environment Foundation, Dhumal reiterated the resolve of his government to make Himachal Pradesh a carbon neutral state in the country by reducing green house gas emissions and contribute for revival of all forms of life.

He said his government was processing the preparations for formulation of an objective environment policy, to avoid any conflict with the environment conservation during pursuit for rapid development.

Dhumal said the issue of carbon credit was raised at national level drawing the attention of the environmentalists towards the genuine demand of the state.

He said the Himalayan states were shouldering the responsibilities of protecting the environment of the entire country as all large rivers originate from Himalayan region.

Ullsten congratulated Dhumal for maintaining best climatic and environment condition which were essential keeping in mind climatic changes globally.
