CHAIBASA (JHARKHAND): Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren today announced his government would provide dhoti and saree for Rs ten only to each of the BPL families through the public distribution system.

Inaugurating a 'Vikas Mela' as part of the fortnight-long foundation day celebrations, Soren said here the government would also make available edible oil to BPL families at concessional rates.

Soren promised to allocate funds for the proposed medical college in Chaibasa, which was approved by the erstwhile Madhu Koda-government, in the next fiscal.

Both Koda and his MLA wife Geeta Koda were present on the occasion.

Referring to the difficulties faced by tribals in getting bank loans, the Chief Minister said efforts were on to help them in this regard.

Soren also asked mine owners to discharge their Corporate Social Responsibilities sincerely.

"We have observed that CSR are being restricted to urban areas," he said, asking them to ensure development in the villages as well.

"The government will be left with no other option but to initiate stringent action, including closure of mines, if they violate the CSR provisions," Soren warned.

The Chief Minister also demanded that the Coal India Limited "clear its dues to the tune of Rs 10,000 crore" over a land lease of about 30,000 acres for coal mining.
