VK Sasikala’s nephew TTV Dhinakaran has moved the Delhi High Court seeking permissions to begin a new political party with the name AIADMK AMMA. He has also made a bid for the pressure cooker symbol, which was allocated to Dhinakaran ahead of the crucial RK Nagar byelections.

Now a legislator and touring across the state, Dhinakaran has finally decided to consolidate support for the new party. Dhinakaran has also submitted three alternative names with the High Court should the judge be indisposed to allot the name to Dhinakaran.

Dhinakaran had emerged victorious in the recently concluded poll for the same constituency amid murmurs of cash distribution again. “We would like to begin our own party this time. The prayer is that we get the AIADMK AMMA and also continue with the Cooker symbol,” said a source close to Dhinakaran.


After current O Panneerselvam’s rebel against Sasikala when the latter decided to become chief minister, the AIADMK was split into two factions: AIADMK AMMA, led by Dhinakaran, and Puratchi Thalaivi Amma, led by Panneerselvam. The two factions made fiery bids to wins the RK Nagar by elections last year, which was cancelled after evidence of widespread distribution of cash.
