Dhinakaran faction knocks high court's door for nod to hold meet

The court has directed the Additional Public Prosecutor to get instructions from the government and posted the matter for further hearing to February 19.

The faction led by sidelined AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran today filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking permission to conduct a public meeting in Vellore in connection with the birth anniversary of late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

When the petition by NG Parthiban, a Dhinakaran supporter came up, Justice MS Ramesh directed the Additional Public Prosecutor to get instructions from the government and posted the matter for further hearing to February 19.

The petitioner submitted that Dhinakaran planned to hold a public meeting on February 24 in Vellore to commemorate the birth anniversary of AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa.

He also submitted that a representation was made in this connection on February 6 to the Superintendent of Police, Vellore.

However, the police has not yet responded to the application made by them for permission to conduct the meeting, the petitioner said.

Alleging that the authorities were biased in discharging their duties and influenced by undue factors, he said he was prompted to move the court seeking permission to conduct the meeting.
