Fadnavis' name was proposed by Chandrakant Patil and Sudhir Mungantiwar in the BJP's legislature meeting.
While an official announcement is awaited, the decision to reinstate Fadnavis as CM comes after discussions with top leaders, which included party-appointed observers for the state, former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar also said in the day that the Mahayuti partners will meet Governor C P Radhakrishnan at 3.30 pm on Wednesday to stake a claim to form a government in the state.
The new CM will be sworn in on December 5, according to an invitation sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as shared by ANI on X.
Mahayuti's landslide victory
The decision is seen as a nod to Fadnavis' popularity and administrative acumen, which the party believes played a pivotal role in the Mahayuti's stellar performance in the elections. The alliance of Shinde Sena, NCP-Ajit Pawar and BJP secured a comfortable majority of 230 seats, with the BJP emerging as the single largest party with 132 seats.Furthermore, Eknath Shinde has reportedly agreed to serve as one of two deputy chief ministers in the new Mahayuti government, reported TOI.

The saffron party was pushing to reinstate Devendra Fadnavis as the state’s CM, a decision that has caused friction within its coalition with Shinde’s Sena, which is advocating for their leader to remain in the position.
