Derecognise Congress: BJP urges Election Commission

BJP took its list of complaints against Congress and Rahul to the EC asking it to derecognise it as a national party for "violating" the Model Code of Conduct.

NEW DELHI: The BJP took its list of complaints against Congress and Rahul Gandhi to the EC asking it to derecognise it as a national party for "violating" the Model Code of Conduct.

"The present violations are a clear indication of the growing trend amongst Congress functionaries of brazen and habitual violations of the Code intentionally & deliberately as well as their intention to malign the image of the opposition parties by adopting any tactic possible, how-so-ever objectionable or ghastly it may be," a memorandum submitted to the poll panel by the BJP on Tuesday said.

A party delegation, led by BJP Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, met the Chief Election Commissioner and lodged a complaint against Gandhi for allegedly equating BJP government in Chhattisgarh with "thieves and looters" at a rally on November 16.
