Dera chief appears before CBI court

Dera Sacha Sauda chief Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on Friday appeared before a court here in connection with the three criminal cases filed against him by the CBI.

AMBALA: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on Friday appeared before a court here in connection with the three criminal cases filed against him by the CBI.

The Dera Chief appeared before the special CBI court, amidst heavy security, in connection with the murder cases of Dera manager Ranjit Singh and Sirsa-based journalist Ram Chander Chatrapati and a sexual harassment case of a woman disciple.

The Supreme Court had yesterday declined to quash the interim bail granted to the Dera chief in the criminal cases filed against him by the CBI.

A bench of Justices Ashok Bhan and VS Sirpurkar while dismissing the SLP filed by the family of a murder victim, upheld the contention of the Punjab & Haryana High Court that the accused was entitled to an interim bail as the CBI had not arrested him during the investigations.

On September 17, the High Court had granted interim bail to the Dera chief till the Sessions Court in Amabala decides on the plea for a regular bail moved by the accused in the three cases registered against him by the CBI.

The High Court had ruled that Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh would have to appear before the Sessions Court on October 4 and file a petition for regular bail, upon which he shall be released on interim bail.
