Demolition of illegal constructions in Hyderabad begins
HYDERABAD: Authorities today began demolition of unauthorised constructions made after encroaching on nalas, lakes and drains under various circles of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

Multi-disciplinary demolition and enforcement squads comprising officials from police, town planning and revenue departments are carrying out the drive.

Eleven unauthorised constructions built on nalas and lakes were pulled down. Besides, 15 constructions with illegal floors were also razed, GHMC officials said.

Demolition of old and dilapidated buildings also continued and a total of 13 such structures faced the hammer, they said.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had last week said the Government will take steps to pull down 28,000 illegal constructions that came up on storm water drains in Hyderabad.

GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy had yesterday said "circle-wise demolition drive will be taken up."
