Demand in RS to remove flaws in midday meal scheme

NEW DELHI: Against the backdrop of midday meal tragedy in Bihar, a demand was raised in RajyaSabha today to remove flaws in implementation of the scheme.

Raising the issue through Special Mention, C P Thakur (BJP) demanded "immediate measures to remove flaws in the implementation of mid-day-meal scheme".

The demand assumes significance in the wake of death of 23 children due to food poisoning in Bihar after consuming midday meal at a school.

Through another Special Mention, Basawaraj Patil (BJP) sought concrete steps to ensure security and integrity of the nation in view of recent activities of neighbouring countries.

Naznin Faruque (Cong) said there was need for proper enforcement of law and order to check violence in the wake of demand for division of Assam.

Tarun Vijay (BJP) raised the plight of Buddhist community of Zanskar suffering from "discrimination" meted out by the police and administration.

Hussain Dalwai (Cong) stressed the need for four-laning of Mumbai-Goa highway in Maharashtra, while Pankaj Bora (Cong) demanded expediting completion of Rangia-Murkongselek Railway project under the North-East Frontier Railway.

Narendra Kashyap (BSP) urged the government to expedite clearance of proposals for widening of National Highways 24, 58 and 91 in the Delhi-Gahziabad sector.

P Rajeev (CPI-M) sought special financial package to rain-hit Kerala, while another party member K N Balagopal stressed the need for steps to use rubber blended bitumen in road construction.

In his Special Mention, Chaudhary Munavver Saleem (SP) sought inclusion of role of Muslim heroes in school curriculum for their contribution in the struggle for Independence.

Ram Kripal Yadav (RJD) demanded withdrawal of the decision to close regional office of Coal India in Patna.
