Demand for increase in J&K hajj quota

Grand mufti of J&K appealed to the Centre to increase the quota of hajj pilgrims from the state as the present allocation was not in proportion to the population.

SRINAGAR: Grand mufti of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday appealed to the Centre to increase the quota of hajj pilgrims from the state as the present allocation was not in proportion to the population.

"The quota of 6,228 for the state is disproportionate to the population. I have requested minister of state for external affairs E Ahmed to increase it by 5,000," grand mufti Bashiruddin Ahmad said in a statement here.
