Demand for Assembly for Lakshadweep raised in Lok Sabha
NEW DELHI: A strong plea for creation of a Legislative Assembly for Lakshdweep was made by an NCP member in the Lok Sabha today and it found instant support from BJP member representing the Andaman and Nicobar islands.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, P P Mohammed Faisal said he was making the demand as there is not a single participatory government in place.

"We do not have democratically-elected representatives there. Even MPs and Panchayat members do not have a voice or a sharing in the process of development. It is all because of bureaucratic set up", he said.

For the last 30 days, the entire Lakshadweep is witnessing a strike because of an act of an Administrator who has not honoured democratic values, the member said lamenting that the rest of India was not even aware of the development.

Supporting him, BJP member Bishnu Pad Ray said similar things happen in Andaman and Nicobar islands.
