Delhi University reschedules DUSU election programme
Delhi University has rescheduled the DUSU election programme citing delayed announcement of results as a reason.
The last date for nominations, which was earlier scheduled for today has been fixed for August 25 and the final list of candidates will be declared on the same day.
"We have revised the schedule to enable maximum students to participate in the Delhi University Student Union polls as many of them will not be able to participate in the election on the previous programme," DUSU Returning Officer Prof J M Khurana said.
The latest results of the varsity have been declared yesterday and students are busy completing the admission process for the next session, Khurana added.
However, the last moment revision of poll programme has not gone down well with student organisations, particularly ABVP, which left no stone unturned to influence the students on the last day of nominations.
"The administration has advanced the last date of nominations to extend a favour to NSUI as some of its candidates could not file nominations," Niharika Sharma, state general secretary of ABVP claimed.
The BJP's student wing alleged that the varsity administration was "working under pressure" of NSUI, the student body of the Congress party, and giving "undue advantages to it (NSUI)."
ABVP has said it will organise protests against the "partial" decision take by the university.
