Delhi polls: 'Outsider' storm in BJP continues
NEW DELHI: Upset with BJP's decision to field mostly outsiders, BJP workers continued to protest in front of its Delhi office and in other parts of the city on Wednesday.

Members of the poorvanchali cell shouted slogans against senior leaders for ignoring the community and preferring outsiders while selecting candidates for the February 7 elections. Gheraoing Delhi unit in-charge Prabhat Jha's vehicle, they said the decision to field just three poorvanchalis will go against BJP as AAP and Congress have fielded more candidates from the community.

"AAP has fielded eight-nine candidates. Last time, too, it had fielded 10-12 candidates, of which eight won. BJP had fielded five candidates last time, but this time only three people have got tickets. There are several seats with a high percentage of poorvanchali voters," said a worker.

The protests continued even after the filing of nomination papers was over. "Those who joined the party hours before the list was announced have been given tickets. These people were preferred over party workers who have been working for years. In the past one year, we have worked extra as there were back-to-back elections," said another worker.

Calling it a natural rection, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said, "This is natural and will die down in a day or two. These people share a bond with their respective leaders as they have been working with them for years. From tomorrow, all party workers will get back to work."

Senior members are also trying to pacify the agitators. On Wednesday, the chief of the Mayur Vihar district unit, Virendra Sachdeva, spoke to the four mandal presidents who have resigned along with Dhir Singh Bidhuri, who had contested last time. "They have assured us that they will work for the party," he said. BJP chief Amit Shah will hold booth-level meetings in East Delhi parliamentary constituency on Thursday.
