Delhi poll results: After the rout, voices of discomfiture grow in Congress
NEW DELHI: Voices of discomfiture grew in Congress with leaders suggesting that all sections were not taken along, which brought this ignominy as the party failed to open its account in Delhi Assembly polls.

"Highly disappointed with the fate of Congress in Delhi. It's sad to see it like this. Wish Sheila Dikshit was roped in too in the campaign," senior party leader Anil Shastri said on Twitter.

Congress leader Manish Tewari said the poll outcome could have been different had all the leaders participated in the election campaign.

"If collectively everybody would have been pitched into the campaign, it would have possibly made a difference," Tewari said.

He also clarified that the set back for Congress could not be attributed to individuals and favoured revisiting the idealogical construct.

Asked what was the way out for Congress as people have rejected the party with a new face this time as well after voting out three-term Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in last Assembly polls, party's face for this elections Ajay Maken said that the result was a "continuation of 2013 mandate" and more an "affirmation for AAP" than "rejection of any other party".

"Whenever we went to people with our manifesto promises like cheap electricity and right to shelter, people questioned why did you not do in last 15 years. We have to rebuild that credibility among people. We will re-invent the party," he said.

Maken and Dikshit were not on the best of the terms and former Delhi Chief Minister was not been given any major role in this election.

Maken was made the Chairman of Congress Campaign Committee and the party face for this poll.

Congress did not win a single seat losing even all the eight seats it had won earlier in 2013. Besides it lost deposit in the majority of seats this time finishing a poor third in most of them.
