Delhi Police to seek Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal's custody

NEW DELHI: Delhi police will seek the custody of Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal for interrogation for his alleged involvement in several cases including the 2011 blasts outside the High Court here and the 2008 serial bomb blast cases.

"We will seek Bhatkal's custody as he is wanted in several terror cases by us. We also have a non-bailable warrant issued against him in a November, 2011 case in which an illegal factory manufacturing arms and ammunition was unearthed in Nangloi area," said a senior Delhi police official.

Delhi police had also declared a reward of Rs 15 lakh against him in December, 2011.

His name had come up in connection with the explosion outside the Delhi High Court here on September 7, 2011 in which 12 people were killed.

Bhatkal is also suspected to have played a key role in the 2008 serial blasts case. On September 13, 2008, the national capital was hit by 5 bomb blasts in Barakhamba Road, near India Gate, Connaught Place, Greater Kailash and Karol Bagh.

Two cases had also been registered against him in 2010 at Jama Masjid police station in connection with the case in which two persons, riding on a motorcycle, opened fire on some foreigners descending from a tourist bus in which two Taiwanese nationals were injured.

The Special Cell of Delhi police had also registered a case against him in connection with an illegal arms factory located at Meer Bahar area of Nangloi in Outer Delhi. 16 people were arrested in this case and a non-bailable warrant was issued against Bhatkal.
