Delhi Police gets 370 new PCR vans

Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde today flagged off 370 new PCR vans fitted with GPS system and mobile phones to enhance the efficiency of the force.

NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde today flagged off 370 new Police Control Room (PCR) vans fitted with GPS system and mobile phones to enhance the efficiency of the force.

The main aim of the PCR vans will be to ensure women safety in the national capital.

Shinde said, "I hope that the earlier response time of eight to ten minutes will be reduced with the induction of these new vehicles. But this will also depend on your ( Delhi Police personnel's) efficiency. I think that there should be a competition between officers over which PCR reaches the crime scene first after receiving a call."

"We want police and public to be friends. But law and order can not be taken care off by policing alone, we need public awareness at all levels," he said.

Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar said the newly inducted vehicles will be deployed near girl's schools and colleges, those roads taken by women to return home after offices and where they go for recreational purposes.

"They will also patrol newly inhabited areas, places which are crime-prone due to there proximity with neighbouring states," Shinde said.
