Delhi police files closure report in Kiran Bedi cheating case

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has filed a closure report in a cheating case against Kiran Bedi for allegedly misappropriating funds donated to her NGO.

The closure report was submitted to a local court on October 28 and will be taken up later.

The investigating officer in the case has submitted in the closure report statements from IT giant Microsoft denying any misappropriation of funds. Copies of audit reports of the Police Training College have also been submitted to prove that everything was duly cleared following the procedure, court sources said.

Delhi Police had slapped case of cheating against Bedi on November 27, 2011, following a court directive based on a complaint by Delhi-based lawyer Devinder Singh Chauhan despite opposition from the cops.

The court, while ordering registration of the FIR, did not heed to contentions of the police that the complainant had no ground, and if there was any misappropriation of funds, the donors, who gave money to Bedi's NGOs India Vision Foundation and Navjyoti Foundation, should have filed a complaint.

Chauhan, in his complaint, had alleged that Bedi had received donations of more than Rs 50 lakh from Microsoft for imparting free computer training to kids and families of BSF, CISF, ITBP, CRPF personnel and other state police organisations under the banner of her trust 'India Vision Foundation'.

Bedi a former Team Anna member has been showering praise on ruling NDA government and there has been indication that she might join BJP ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls. Her name was doing the rounds as a possible Chief Ministerial face for the party but a number of senior Delhi leaders of the party reportedly opposed it.
