Delhi Gymkhana Club moves HC against centre’s takeover order; row sparks reactions

Members of Delhi Gymkhana Club have moved the Delhi High Court against the Centre’s order directing the club to hand over its 27.3-acre premises near Lok Kalyan Marg by June 5. The Centre has cited the need to strengthen and secure defence infrastructure in the high-security zone. Petitioners, however, have termed the reasons “vague” and a “sham,” alleging forced dispossession without due process or compensation. The matter was urgently mentioned by senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi and is scheduled for hearing on Tuesday.
