NEW DELHI: Delhi government today proposed an amnesty scheme for all power consumers facing problem of tampered or faulty meters.

"The power department has been asked to devise a proposal to this effect and obtain concurrence of the DERC. It is proposed to make effective the amnesty scheme for two months from February," Power Minister A K Walia told the media.

A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting recently.

"A large number of consumers are still facing harassment and are not able to get their meters changed after their meters were termed as tampered or faulty," Walia said.

Under the new scheme, customers would have to bear only cost of new meter, he added.
