Delhi Govt announces Rs 11 lakh for Sharma's family
Delhi government announced a compensation of Rs 11 lakh to the family of Delhi Police Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, who died in a shootout with suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorists.
This was announced by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
"Sharma was a brave man and he sacrificed his life battling terrorists," Dikshit said announcing the compensation for the family of Sharma.
Considered an encounter specialist and posted with the elite anti-terror squad Special Cell, Sharma was a highly decorated officer with seven gallantry medals to his credit, including a President's Medal.
The 43-year-old officer served the city police for 19 years before succumbing to bullet injuries he suffered in a fierce gunfight with five heavily-armed "terrorists" at a house in south Delhi on Friday.
During his meritorious career, he was instrumental in the killing of 35 terrorists and the arrest of another 80 militants.
