Delhi government orders inspection of city's ration shops

Delhi government today directed officials to conduct surprise inspections of all the ration shops after it found irregularities in two such establishments.

NEW DELHI: Delhi Food and Civil Supplies minister Imran Hussain today directed the officials to conduct surprise inspections of all the ration shops after he found irregularities during his visit to two such establishments.

The minister made a surprise inspection of two Fair Price Shops (FPSs) in the East Delhi.

"During the inspection, irregularities were noticed in two FPSs. The minister directed the officers for taking stringent action against the concerned FPS dealers as per law, including suspension of license of the shops, as mandated under the provisions of law," said a senior government official.


At present, more than 72.78 lakh beneficiaries are covered for drawing ration as per entitlement in the national capital.

The official said following the inspection, the minister has directed the department to carry out similar surprise inspection in other parts of the city as well.

Hussain directed officers to ensure that all the prescribed information regarding FPS Dealer, food articles, FPS opening and closing timings, complaint mechanism is displayed on the boards at these shops.
