Delhi government forms committee to rehabilitate Pakistan Hindu refugees

NEW DELHI: Delhi government has constituted a committee for immediate rehabilitation of 70 Hindu refugee families from Pakistan currently lodged at a temporary location in an area in north Delhi for the past eight months.

On the direction of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Social Welfare Minister Sandeep Kumar has constituted a committee to look into the rehabilitation of the Pakistani refugees, officials today said.

According to the Delhi government, as many as 70 Hindu refugee families from Pakistan's Sindh area had shifted their base to India, eight months ago and since then, they have been living in Majnu ka Tila area here, but "not getting" basic facilities like water and electricity.

Kumar has directed concerned officials to install a generator in two days, besides mobile toilets vans in a day.

The minister has also directed to supply ration to the needy persons identified by the refugees themselves.

Majnu ka Tila, is otherwise known as an enclave of Tibetan refugees in the city.
