NEW DELHI: Under attack following brutal gangrape of a 23-year-old girl, Delhi Government today promised to improve public transport system including requesting Delhi Metro to operate its services till 12 in the night.

Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami at a meeting with officials of his department issued direction to enhance number of DTC buses after 11 PM. He said Delhi Police would be requested to provide security in buses operating in night.

Goswami said the Government has decided to ensure installation of GPS in all the public service vehicles.

"It was decided to immediately start installation of GPS in autos and in Garmin Sewa vehicles," said Goswami.

He directed officials to intensify checking of Public Service Vehicle (PSV) badges of the drivers driving the public service vehicles. As per norms, all the drivers driving public service vehicles must posses PSV badges issued by Transport department.

Goswami said curtain and tinted glass will be removed from all public service vehicles.

He said all the buses will have proper lighting.
