Delhi eyes rationalisation of excise, VAT among neighbouring states

Delhi government has invited finance ministers and officials of six states and Union Territories for a meeting.

NEW DELHI: Aiming at the rationalisation of VAT and excise tax rates among neighbouring states, Delhi government has invited finance ministers and officials of six states and Union Territories for a meeting here.

According to a senior government official, a joint meeting of the representatives of the six states would be held at the Delhi Secretariat on May 21.

Finance Ministers of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana have been invited for the meeting with Chandigarh, the common capital of the last two, would be represented by the adviser to the administrator of the Union Territory, the official said.

"The meeting has been called to discuss the tax structure prevailing in these states and how it can be rationalised. Officials will discuss taxes like the excise and VAT and their implementation in these states," the official added.
