Delhi elections 2015: NGO work done by Kiran Bedi may help BJP's prospects in Bawana

NEW DELHI: BJP's CM candidate, Kiran Bedi, was yet again heard asking "achcha laga" to the crowd at both her rallies on Wednesday. But this time, she also asked them if they believed (vishwas aaya) the promises being made by the party.

Addressing the gathering at Bawana JJ Colony, she chose to win the confidence of residents by putting forth the work done by her NGO Navjyoti. Highlighting its achievements, Bedi said that the children enrolled in her NGO have got distinctions and few girls have gone to Coimbatore for nursing courses.

"Everyone in the area knows about Navjyoti and Neetu Sharma and the amount of work that has been done for children. The schools in Bawana are in a shambles and we want to make the children literate," Bedi said. Sharma is the executive director of the NGO and she and other workers were present on the dais to support Bedi.

With drugs and gambling being the biggest problems plaguing the area, Bedi said that she will ensure that policing improves and raids are conducted. The candidate for the constituency, Gugan Singh Ranga, said that improving the condition of schools is his priority and Bedi's NGO has done a lot of work in the area for skill development and literacy.

With the last leg of campaigning getting late than usual, people were seen leaving when she arrived in Bawana. Some said it was getting late and they might not get public conveyance to their destinations. "We were told that the rally would end by 7pm, but she (Bedi) came an hour late. We are leaving as our children are alone at home," said Saroj Kumari.

People at Bedi's earlier rally in Holambi Kalan also seemed in a hurry to return to their homes. While she was giving her speech, people had gathered near their buses. "The buses are locked and police have taken the drivers to the chowki. We have been told that the buses will not leave till the public meeting is over. We aren't even from the area," claimed Santosh, a resident of Kanjhawala.

The burden of completing five rallies in a day seemed heavy on Bedi as she forgot the name of the Narela candidate and asked for his introduction on stage.

Bedi announced in Narela that she will go on radio every month and talk to residents just like Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "I will tell you through radio the work done by the BJP government every month. Sometimes newspapers and channels do not provide all the news," she said while asking people to take a pledge not to give bribes.
