A local court here granted bail to former railway minister Lalu Prasad, his sons Tej Pratap Yadav and former Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav, in the land-for-jobs case.

The trio were granted bail on Monday on condition that they furnish a bail bond of ₹1 lakh each. They have also been asked to surrender their passports. The case will come up for resumed hearing on October 25.

The court, at its last hearing, had summoned the trio and co-accused after taking cognisance of a supplementary charge sheet filed by ED against the accused. "Prima facie, it emerges that Lalu Prasad was in a position to facilitate public employment by virtue of his position. Various persons had parted with land parcels for Lalu's family at cheaper rates than the prevailing market rates," special judge Vishal Gogne of the Rouse Avenue Court had said in his September 18 order.

"Lalu seems to have doled out government jobs in exchange for land parcels. Tejashwi had allegedly received shares of a company, AK Infosystems, at a pittance. There is sufficient material on record to gather use of proceeds of crime. Similarly, the accused persons who sold their land holdings can be viewed to have consciously entered into this and generated proceeds of crime," the judge had said.

While Tej Pratap was not made an accused in the supplementary charge sheet by ED, the court had summoned him as well on Monday.

ED had launched a money laundering probe in the case on the basis of an FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
