Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal seeks Japan's help in sewage, infrastructure projects

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has sought help and cooperation from Japan for development of key projects in the field of infrastructure and sewage. Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, along with PWD minister Satyendar Jain and Delhi Dialogue Commission vice chairperson Ashish Khetan, met Japanese Ambassador Kenji Hiramatsu on Monday. Kejriwal will send a team of senior government officials to meet Hiramatsu again for detailed discussions.

Japan is already funding some key projects in Delhi through Japan International Cooperation Agency, including Delhi Metro and a couple of projects of Delhi Jal Board. Issues like mutual cooperation in transportation, water, sewage system, earthquake resistant buildings and other developmental projects were discussed during the 30minute meeting, said sources.

A key project that was discussed in the meeting was the dedicated elevated corridor for public transport. PWD is in the process of drawing up a plan for two such corridors and is likely to ask for financial assistance to build these. A delegation of high level government officers is expected to travel to Japan shortly . Sources said that officers would be visiting the Japanese ambassador in a few days to make a presentation on projects being developed or conceptualised by the AAP government.
