Delhi Assembly sets up special panels for probe in DDCA, CNG scam

NEW DELHI: Delhi Assembly today set up two special committees with nine members each to probe the alleged financial irregularities in Delhi & District Cricket Association ( DDCA) and the CNG-fitness scam.

The committees, with all their members being Aam Aadmi Party MLAs, have been asked to submit their reports before the commencement of the sixth session of the sixth Legislative Assembly.

The House adopted a resolution moved by AAP MLA Som Dutt to probe alleged financial irregularities and corruption in bodies including DDCA that are administering the games of cricket and hockey in the national capital.

Addressing the Assembly, AAP MLA Alka Lamba said that the Delhi government should inform the House whether the one-member committee earlier formed by it to probe irregularities including financial bunglings in the capital's cricket body DDCA, are operational or not.

She said several directors were appointed using the name of one person which indicates alleged irregularities. Another AAP MLA Sarita Singh said that instead of conducting raid at chief minister's principal secretary office, probe agency should have raided the DDCA office.

"The committee will look into working, management and administration (including alleged financial irregularities) of the bodies that are entrusted with administering and managing the affairs of cricket and hockey in Delhi," the resolution said.

In December, the Arvind Kejriwal government had appointed a one-member committee headed by former solicitor general Gopal Subramanium to probe the alleged irregularities in DDCA. The Delhi Cabinet had also called a one-day special session of the Assembly to discuss the issue.

The decision to form the commission of inquiry had come amid the Aam Aadmi Party's fierce attack on Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley over alleged irregularities in the DDCA during his 13-year tenure its chief. Jaitley had then strongly rubbished the allegations.

The Delhi Assembly adopted another resolution which favours setting up of a nine-member special committee to probe alleged CNG fitness scam in which a number of officials of previous Sheila Dikshit government were under scanner.
