Delhi assembly elections: Now, BJP eyes auto rides to get more members
NEW DELHI: After AAP, BJP is going to launch an autorickshaw campaign to woo voters ahead of the assembly elections.

The party has roped in auto drivers for its membership campaign. Apart from putting BJP's membership posters and a cutout of the party's lotus symbol on their autos, these drivers are also expected to convince passengers to join the party.

Delhi BJP has close to 11,000 auto drivers registered with it. The party's transport cell is also in touch with other auto unions to join its campaign. "We want more and more people to join the party. Apart from putting posters at the back of the autos, we will also put up stickers inside it, asking people to join us. The posters will have our toll-free numbers," said Anand Trivedi, in charge of Delhi BJP's transport cell.

The auto drivers will tell the passengers about the achievements of the central government in the past few months. "If the passenger wants to join the party, these drivers will help them in the registration process. People can become a member by giving them a missed call and texting them their details,'' said Trivedi.

After the success of this campaign during the Lok Sabha elections when the party had converted autorickshaws into 'Modi raths', BJP is confident that these drivers would act as their messengers. At present, the auto will only be used for the membership drive which will go on till January 15. However, the party plans to relaunch the 'Modi rath' during the assembly elections, likely to be held early next year.

"Apart from Modi's cutouts and the party symbol, we will also mount a loudspeaker on these autos. These autos will travel across the city to tell people about the achievements of the central government,'' said Trivedi.
