Delhi Pollution: Air quality worsens on Thursday; AQI slips into very poor category

Delhi's air quality slipped into the very poor category of Wednesday due to calm winds as most of the residents woke up to thick smog. The Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 328 which falls in 'very poor' category.

The air quality began to worsen from Wednesday. It was pretty bad in Noida but slightly better in Gurgaon. The worsening of air quality on Thursday can be traced to relatively calmer winds which doesn't disperse the air pollutants thereby causing deterioration in air quality.

The Parliament will take up the issue on Thursday for discussion both in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.


Incessant stubble burning remains one of the main reasons behind the worsening air quality in Delhi-NCR.

The Supreme Court-mandated anti-pollution authority, EPCA, had asked Delhi and NCR states on Monday to step up surveillance and enforcement to check local sources of pollution and crop burning in view of the predicted dip in air quality.
