DeitY appoints Tapan Ray as director general of National Informatics Centre

The Department of Electronics and Information Technology has appointed additional secretary Tapan Ray as the director general of the NIC.

NEW DELHI: The Department of Electronics and Information Technology has appointed additional secretary Tapan Ray as the director general of the National Informatics Centre, a critical institution in charge of egovernance applications and science and technology initiatives of the government.
Sources confirmed that the appointment came into effect earlier this month.

Ray, a 1982 batch IAS officer of the Gujarat cadre worked at secretary and additional secretary-levels the then chief minister Narendra Modi's administration.

Before taking charge at DeitY, Ray was the managing director of the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) and his deputation to Delhi from GSPC was cleared by Modi in 2013.

He was appointed as DeitY additional secretary in September last year, and takes over the role of National Informatics Centre DG from Joint Secretary Ajay Kumar.
