Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar travels economy class to Goa

PANAJI: Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar today said he would use the security cover only when necessary, and avoid using the special aircraft as far as possible.

"I have not taken Z security cover in Goa. I would prefer to go around with minimum security. But in Delhi while travelling I have to take the security cover," Parrikar said, talking to reporters here.

He is visiting Goa for the first time after joining the Union cabinet. Parrikar, known for his non-fussy ways when he was the Goa Chief Minister, arrived here by an ordinary passenger flight.

"I will take the special aircraft only when I am visiting areas like Siachen, Twang or Kashmir. I won't use the special aircraft on the day-to-day basis," Parrikar added.

He also said he would prefer travelling by economy class.

As the Chief Minister, Parrikar had avoided taking elaborate security cover.
