JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lt Gen S K Sinha (retd) has said that defeating the scourge of terrorism is imperative for peaceful co-existence and prosperity of South Asian region since the violence has taken heavy toll in India and Pakistan.

He was interacting with a group of elders from the border tehsil of Uri in Kashmir yesterday on their return from a tour organised by the Indian Army under Operation Sadhbhavna. "India has been successfully facing the challenge of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir while our neighbouring country, which was the epicentre of international terrorism, has itself become its victim," he said.

Sinha said apart from military action against terrorism, the invincible weapon for fighting the menace has been the unique and rich legacy of "Kashmiriyat". While referring to a bomb blast in Srinagar on March 19, he said, "such lunatic acts retard the growth of progress and create a sense of insecurity among the people."
